List of Dangerous Ingredients in Beauty Products You Need to Avoid If You Have Sensitive Skin

If you have a bad experience after using certain skin care products, such as itching or redness (red dots in your skin), it is one of indication that your skin is sensitive. Some people with sensitive skin even have worse indication like dry skin and flaky. This skin problem is most likely due to the ingredients contained in the skin care product.

That's why you have to be very careful about the composition of each cosmetic and skincare product before buying it. We will help you with making some list of dangerous ingredients for sensitive skin. You have to avoid:

1. Methylisothiazone
Methylisothiazolinone (MI) is a preservative commonly found in skin care products, including wet wipes, shampoos, conditioners, bath soaps, moisturizers, sunscreens, deodorants, and a number of cosmetic products.

MI is the most common cause of allergic contact dermatitis. According to the St John 's Institute of Dermatology in London, as many as 10% of people who have sensitive skin also have allergies to methylisothiazone.

Methylisothiazolinone has many aliases. Avoid products that include these names on the composition label:

2-Methyl-3 (2H) -isothiazolone
3 (2H) - Isothiazolone
2-methyl-
Caswell No. 572A
2-Methyl-4-isothiazoline-3-one
Neolone; Neolone 950; NeoloneCapG; Neolone M 10; Neolone M 50; Neolone PE
MIT Optiphen
MIT OriStar
ProClin 150; ProClin 950
SPX
Zonen MT

2. Essential oil
Not all beauty products (skin care) that are labeled organic or natural such as containing essential oils are safe for sensitive skin.

You should avoid these products because natural ingredients are difficult to be tested for medical safety. Acidic pH levels of some plant extracts such as oranges and mint (including peppermint) tend to cause irritation to the skin that is sensitive

3. Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulphate (SLES)
SLS and SLES are foam-making chemicals in soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and detergents.

Sulphate is made from mineral salts containing sulfur. This can cause chronic dry skin and itching all over the body. Owners of sensitive skin should use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner.

4. Bismuth Oxychloride
Bismuth oxychloride is often used in mineral-based makeup products to give a matte or shimmery final appearance.

For people who have sensitive skin, this component can cause a reddish, itchy, and hot rash. So, please try to avoid this ingredient.

5. Perfumes or fragrances

Avoid cosmetic or skin care products that contain fragrances or any type of perfume. Chemical and natural ingredients that are used as fragrances can cause skin irritation in sensitive people.

Try to find alternative skin care with no perfume or fragrance at all. You can consult to skin care expert about this matter.

6. Synthetic petrochemicals and emollients
Chemical thickener such as liquid paraffin and mineral oils in certain lotion, shampoo, soap, moisturizer, and skin creams can cause excessive skin oil production. As a result, sensitive skin is more easily irritated and makes the skin become dull because of clogged pores.

If your skin is sensitive the solution is you can use products that contain vegetable oils, such as jojoba oil and almond oil.
