Various types of Dermal Filler Injections

The type of liquid injected into your face has a different way of working to produce the promised filler results. What are the most popular ones?

1. Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is one of the most popular filler syringes because it rarely causes side effects.

Hyaluronic acid is an artificial version of the same natural compound found in every human body - found in many clear layers of the eye, joint connective tissue, and skin. Hyaluronic acid stimulates the production of natural collagen to help maintain skin moisture, prevent oil clogging in the pore that causes zits, to disguise fine lines and wrinkles on the face.

The examples of hyaluronic acid commonly used in filler syringes are HylaForm, Juvederm Voluma XC, XC Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Volbella XC, and Restylane. How long the results of hyaluronic acid injections last depending on how many times you inject it.

Although there are minimal serious side effects, filler fluids using HA can leak and clot under the skin like a lump.

2. Collagen

Injectable collagen fillers use collagen liquid extracted from cow collagen. Collagen injections look more natural, but unfortunately do not last long/temporary. Most collagen injections begin to disappear a month after being injected into the face. In addition, collagen also often triggers an allergic reaction because it is made from animals.

Collagen for injectable fillers that are widely used consists of several types such as Cosmoderm, Evolution, Fibrel, Zyderm, and Zyplast.

3. Using body fat (Autologous)

If collagen injection is obtained from cow collagen extracts, autologous filler injections use fat reserves from your own body - usually taken from the thighs, buttocks or even the abdomen, which is then injected into the face. The results are semi-permanent so you may need to go back and forth to inject regularly to keep your face looking young.

The risk of autologous injections is the same as injecting fillers in general, namely reddish swelling at the injection site that will deflate over time. This is normal and you should not worry about it.

However, because this procedure requires the transfer of fat from one limb to another, many health professionals and doctors forbid the use of injectable fat fillers because of the risk of creating latent hazards.

4. Silicon

The price of injecting liquid silicon is indeed more affordable than injecting HA fillers. The results are also more durable. Filler like HA Restylane and collagen can only last up to six months, while silicone fillers can last a lifetime. The examples of silicone injections are Bellafill, Radiesse, Sculptra, Silicon.

Liquid silicone has a consistency similar to motor oil. When injected into the skin, the body's immune system will react to the substance by wrapping it with the body's natural collagen. This new collagen will permanently thicken the skin.

However, injecting liquid silicone is still one of the most controversial beauty methods in the field of cosmetic surgery. Because the results are permanent, the side effects of silicone injections, although rare, can also be permanent. One of the most feared complications is the formation of silicone granulomas, aka siliconoma, which occur due to leakage of silicon in the surrounding body tissues and produce an inflammatory reaction.

Other side effects include the appearance of lumps under the skin. In rare cases, the lump can only be removed surgically. When silicone is injected in the wrong way or in the wrong place, injecting this filler can cause facial damage.
